I'm an experienced renovator and research scientist, working to transform a 50’s bungalow into a 21st century super-insulated little gem. I hired Joe and Andrew to help me with several projects over the last few years, including steel roofing, exterior cladding, eavestroughs, and soffits, and additional projects are forthcoming. I’ve been really fortunate to have found Smarthome. Firstly, I’m not an easy customer for Joe and Andrew, in that I have particular demands and requirements, as I’m a stickler for construction details and aim to utilize the latest building science and highest quality materials in my own work. I didn’t want to deal with just your average renovator. The goal here is to build for the next 50 years. It was a revelation to initially interact with Joe and later Andrew, who share this same passion for quality and best practice in construction methods and materials, and I’ve learned a lot from their experience and wisdom. Their interactions and communications are always professional and prompt, and as a smaller company it feels highly personalized, I’m always in the loop. Exterior renos inevitably encounter unexpected complications and delays, and it was in fact my own project delays requiring Smarthome to shuffle their project deck. No problem, they get it, we’re in this together. For the average homeowner just wanting to know if Smarthome will listen to you, provide the best possible advice, steer you clear of bad choices, give you options to meet your needs and budget, build it right the first time, and give you a fair market price, then have no hesitation. Awesome company.
This is our first experience with large renovations due to the hail storm last year. This company has been a pleasure to deal with. So far our roof has been replaced. The roofers used were amazing people who were friendly and knowledgeable; taking time to answer questions. Their work looks amazing and has left us feeling confident that the job has been done with the very best quality.
We were very pleased with the work that was done on our house. The communications between us and the contractors were excellent and there were no budgetary surprises. The quality of the work was outstanding. Everyone was friendly and accommodating to our schedules. Multiple neighbours stopped by to comment highly on the final renovations. All-in-all we can recommend Smart Home highly.
From start to finish, Joe and his team were fantastic to work with when dealing with the stress of such a large purchase. They were very communicative and professional. When I had to leave for leave for several weeks and wasn't home, they continued to send me photo updates and answer any questions I had promptly. I loved working with Joe and the entire SmartHome team for my metal roof. I am a very particular person and care significantly about the fine details of a job. Joe was very patient and accommodating with my preferences and put a level of care and detail into my home as if he owned it himself. I was thoroughly impressed with the initial planning process and was even more impressed with the actual execution of the job. The team was effective, efficient, and showed great attention to detail throughout the entire process. Well worth the investment of a metal roof and you can’t go wrong with Joe and the SmartHome team. I’ll never have to buy another metal roof again on this house because of the longevity of the product but if I ever need another roof on a future property, I’ll definitely be coming back to SmartHome! We talked with Joe a number of months before the renovation but at that time we were focused on renovating the interior so we had it in mind of what we wanted to do but left it for a few months. We contacted Joe in August which was a number of months later and he asked if we were ready to do this and the interior was looking good but the exterior was shabby so I was more than ready to get going on it.We heard originally October but to my surprise they started in September. First was to take off the siding and stucco. Hands off to Chris who worked his butt off while battling health issues. Getting that stucco off was a real chore but he did it without making a mess of everything. He cleaned up as he went daily and we didn't have to live through construction garbage being left around. Eavestroughs were the second last thing and they did a fantastic job channeling water smartly away from the property. We had some water damage from our previous system and Joe's team replaced the damaged wood and put in better eavestroughs. The last part was the garage door and now the house looks brand new again. Five stars all around and if you are looking for someone who you can trust and sticks to his work then I would recommend Smart Home Building Systems any day.Photos are not in order for some reason but you get the idea.
